I was invited to participate in the Figma Leadership Collective event in San Francisco.
The Leadership Collective—Figma's exclusive community for executives driving innovation in product, design, and engineering. This program connects leaders fostering opportunities to network, share insights, and collaborate.
Our discussions offered a glimpse into the evolving relationship between design and artificial intelligence. Hosted by Figma, the event was a melting pot of ideas, bringing together industry leaders, including the VP of Design at Figma, SVP of Slack, and others to discuss the future of design in an AI-driven world.
Leadership Collective

The event took place in a stunning venue in downtown San Francisco, setting the stage for vibrant discussions and creative exchanges. The atmosphere was electric, filled with anticipation and curiosity about how AI will transform the design landscape. As a participant in the discussion panel, I was eager to explore the challenges and opportunities that AI presents to our industry.
Keynote

One of the highlights of the night was the keynote speeches by the VP of Design @ Figma Noah Levin . Noah shared insights into how the company is investing in AI to enhance its product offerings. Initiatives like FigJam aim to leverage AI for summarizing ideas and streamlining design processes, showcasing a commitment to integrating AI in a way that complements and enhances human creativity rather than replacing it.
Ethan Eismann from Slack offered a different perspective, emphasizing the importance of maintaining privacy while utilizing AI to facilitate communication and collaboration. This balance between innovation and privacy was a recurring theme throughout the event, highlighting the need for thoughtful integration of AI technologies.
AI Discussions

During the panel discussions, I had the opportunity to share my thoughts on how Nutanix is approaching AI in design. Our focus is on using AI to empower designers to work more efficiently, allowing them to delve deeper into problem-solving and creative thinking. This aligns with the broader consensus at the event that AI should serve as a tool for enhancement, not replacement.
A key takeaway was the understanding that AI is not here to take over the role of designers. Instead, it is poised to become a powerful ally, augmenting the relationship between designers and their ideas. This perspective was echoed by many leaders present, who shared their experiences and strategies for integrating AI into their workflows.
"Technology is not here to replace designers. It's meant to enhance the relationship between a designer and their ideas."
Discussions also touched on the challenges faced by the design industry in adopting AI. Concerns about data privacy, ethical considerations, and the potential loss of human touch in design were prominent topics. However, innovative solutions were proposed, such as developing AI systems that prioritize transparency and user control, ensuring that designers remain at the helm of the creative process.
Understanding the industry's challenges

I had the opportunities to connect with design leaders from companies like PlayStation, Gartner, Asana, IDEO and many more. These interactions were invaluable, offering insights into how different industries are tackling similar challenges with AI. The exchange of ideas fostered a sense of community and collaboration, underscoring the importance of cross-industry dialogue in navigating the future of design.
Reflexions
Reflecting on the event, I am more convinced than ever of the transformative potential of AI in design. The discussions reinforced my belief that AI can enhance creativity and efficiency, allowing designers to focus on what they do best: creating innovative solutions. At Nutanix, we are exploring these possibilities, integrating AI in ways that align with our values and vision.
Looking ahead, the future of design with AI is promising. Trends suggest a shift towards more streamlined design systems and enhanced collaboration tools, making the design process more efficient and effective. As these technologies continue to evolve, they will undoubtedly shape the industry in profound ways, offering new opportunities for creativity and innovation.
As we move forward, the challenge will be to harness the power of AI responsibly, ensuring that it serves as a catalyst for creativity and progress in the design industry.
